DELEGATES' EXPERIENCES

WITH UNION RIGHTS:

"We can access paid delegate training. Through the union training it has helped to build my confidence and to learn my rights and other valuable info to represent my coworkers."

WITHOUT UNION RIGHTS:

"Delegates were pushed back from organising paid meetings, told it has to be unpaid in our own time despite EBA ."

What are delegate rights?

Union delegates are elected by their workmates to help keep workplaces safe and fair for workers.

Union delegates are the go-to person for workers if they have questions about their workplace rights or safety concerns at work. They raise safety concerns with the boss and if necessary intervene to protect workers from harm.

They support and represent members in meetings with the boss to ensure that workers are treated fairly and according the workplace rights in their Agreement or Australian workplace law.

They negotiate workplace agreements with bosses and keep members informed of improvements, wins, and other changes in the workplace.

Union delegates should have access to union training to make sure they have everything they need to carry out their important work.
